You should see Louisa May Alcott's house, or Nathaniel Hawthorne's. They're all in the same neighborhood and all look great. I don't think I would have wanted to live in Thoreau's cabin, though.

I lived in Emerson's room at Harvard Divinity School, and looking at the fireplace, often thought of him looking at that same fireplace. He was an inspiration. As I left the door of the dormatory I was confronted by a rectangular grass, and across from me were two giant statues of rhinos. It is a vivid memory for me, a compass that has always been with me. What a great connection. What I take away from all of his writings is this sense of optimism which seems so lacking in our age. I can't imagine how inspirational it would have been to have actually lived in that room.
